Streamlining Workflows and Empowering Project Managers
Project managers often found themselves sifting through multiple platforms to access information, input data, and locate form templates. The onboarding process for new project managers was a challenge, as resources were scattered across various platforms.
The aim was to build an app that served as a comprehensive hub for project managers. It would house a project-specific checklist to guide PMs from start to finish, automating processes such as email communication with contractors and report generation, all based on the data stored in the database.
Target Audience
The app targeted project managers, both experienced and newcomers, to facilitate seamless project execution.
Role and Responsibilities
As a developer and UI designer, I played a key role in the app's creation. I also led communications and training during the app's release. Our team collaborated closely with PMs, PMOs, and state leads to ensure the app met user needs.
Process and Methodology
We engaged with project managers to understand the intricacies of the project management processes.
Although I wasn't involved in the research phase, I contributed to the ideation stage, determining the priority features with our stakeholders.
Our small development team used PowerApps, Power Automate, and other tools to build the app. After testing with our Victorian team and resolving numerous bugs, we released the app.
Design Decisions and Challenges
The main challenge was automating report generation due to data integration issues and the complexity of gathering relevant data with our current systems. We also faced several bugs and struggled to optimize performance on a low-code platform. Our team efficiently managed the influx of feature requests and planned the app's future iterations.
Results and Impact
The app led to significant time savings in project management, reduced schedule delays, and minimized errors by providing PMs with all necessary data. It also streamlined the onboarding process for new staff. The app's automation features eliminated manual report generation, freeing up valuable time for PMs to focus on their core responsibilities.
