POUR-OVER
A Flavourful Journey for Coffee Aficionados
As the vibrant coffee culture in Melbourne flourished with the rise of third-wave coffee, I spotted an untapped opportunity to create the Pour-Over App.
The main objective was to design a visually appealing, user-friendly app that housed a treasure trove of filter coffee recipes. The plan was to enable users to favorite recipes, and eventually link each recipe to matching coffee beans. By partnering with roasters, the app aimed to monetize the experience, earning a commission on beans sold through the platform.
Target Audience
The Pour-Over App was tailored for passionate coffee enthusiasts and baristas seeking to refine their pour-over V60 or Aeropress brewing techniques.
Role and Responsibilities
As a one-person powerhouse, I took charge of the entire project lifecycle, from the initial concept to the final product.
Process and Methodology
The journey began with user research at a local café I worked at, delving into the preferences of our customers practices when brewing filter coffee at home.
I then plotted out my findings into sticky notes, teasing out insights using affinity diagrams; which helped me decide on what to build in the app.
The wireframing stage unfolded in Figma, followed by prototyping and development using Bravo, with Airtable serving as the dependable database.
Design Decisions and Challenges
The constraints of Bravo's free plan posed a challenge, barring me from implementing the favorite feature. However, I pivoted seamlessly, focusing on designing an intuitive search function and filter, enabling users to easily discover their perfect recipes.
Results and Impact
The Pour-Over App took a spotlight on Bravo's website, shining as a featured testimonial. At a local cafe, patrons embraced the app, finding recipes that harmonized with the beans they purchased. The project showcased my ability to bring a creative, valuable, and budget-friendly app to life, all within a tight timeframe.
